RESILIENCE Laboratory Science Workshop Featured on BBC An Là

RESILIENCE’s new Laboratory Science Workshop has been featured on BBC An Là. Students from across the Highlands explored laboratory science through VR. The report showcases their experiences and the benefits of immersive learning.
The RESILIENCE team at Heriot-Watt University recently launched a new National 5 Laboratory Science Workshop, giving pupils the opportunity to explore laboratory science, medicines manufacturing and future career pathways through hands-on activities and immersive technology.
Pupils and teachers from Dornoch Academy, Dingwall Academy and Culloden Academy took part in the first workshops, learning about how medicines are made, laboratory safety and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), while developing practical skills in a virtual laboratory.
A key part of the workshops was the use of virtual and mixed reality (VR/MR), allowing students to practise laboratory techniques such as pipetting and explore environments and equipment that can be difficult to access in a traditional classroom.

The resulting BBC An Là report highlights how VR is helping students gain practical experience and explore career opportunities in medicines manufacturing and other industries facing skills shortages.
The report features students and educators discussing their experiences, including how VR can provide access to virtual laboratories, allow learners to practise skills in a safe environment and give young people a greater insight into the world of work.
