The RESILIENCE hub at Heriot-Watt University welcomed four secondary school students for a full week of fun, interactive and hands-on work experience training, learning all about the medicine manufacturing process, careers in the sector, as well as practicing key lab techniques using both immersive VR/MR technologies and hand-on activities.

Students experienced a full week of work experience training, learning about the medicine manufacturing process and the career opportunities in the sector. They also had the opportunity to practice essential laboratory techniques using both VR/MR digital technologies and a wide range of hands-on practicals

Over five action-packed days, students explored academic and industry pathways in the medicine manufacturing sector, engaged in immersive VR training, practiced key lab skills and visited state-of-the-art facilities like the FlexBio industrial scale-up labs. From pipetting and assembling bioreactors to presenting their experimental results, the students gained both practical experience and a deeper appreciation for the complexity of making safe, effective medicines. The week left students inspired, informed and more confident in pursuing a future in STEM.
